At Metro East Humane Society (MEHS), we believe that every pet deserves a healthy life, and that starts with responsible pet ownership. One of the most important steps you can take as a pet parent is to have your cat or dog spayed or neutered. We recognize that cost can be a challenge, which is why MEHS offers low-cost spay and neuter services to make this essential care accessible for everyone in the Metro East community.
Why Spay or Neuter Your Pet?
Spaying (for female pets) and neutering (for male pets) isn’t just about preventing litters. It’s about keeping your pet healthy and improving their behavior, too. Spayed and neutered pets are less likely to roam, mark territory, or develop certain cancers and infections. It also helps reduce pet overpopulation and the number of animals that end up in shelters.

Spay and neuter procedures are offered five days a week, Monday through Friday, at our Edwardsville shelter, located at 8495 State Route 143, Edwardsville, IL 62025. Your specific drop-off and pickup details are provided when your appointment is confirmed.
Spay/Neuter Services for Feral or Outdoor Cats
We also offer a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program for feral or free-roaming cats. This humane approach helps control outdoor cat populations and keeps communities safer. With our TNR service, cats are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and ear-tipped so their caretaker can return them to their territory to live out their lives without adding to the outdoor cat population.
