Foster homes are at the heart of what we do at MEHS. They give pets a safe place to heal, grow, decompress and simply enjoy life outside of the shelter.

Whether it’s a litter of kittens learning how to be family pets, an animal recovering from medical care or a shelter pet who just needs a break, fostering gives them the time and space they need to thrive.
​
You provide the home and the love. We provide the supplies, medical care and support along the way. Together, we give more pets the second chances they deserve.

SHORT-TERM FOSTER OPPORTUNITIES
NOT READY TO FULL-TIME FOSTER?
You don’t need to bring a pet home for a few weeks to make a difference. Dogventures and Pawjama Parties give MEHS dogs a break from shelter life for an afternoon, overnight, weekend or holiday.
​
A little time away from the kennel gives dogs a chance to relax, have some fun and show us more of who they are. Plus, the photos, stories and notes you bring back help us learn more about them and introduce adopters to the pet beyond the shelter.
DOGVENTURES
Take a shelter dog out for the day! Grab a pup and hit the trail, take a neighborhood walk, visit a dog-friendly spot or just spend a few hours hanging out together. Dogventures offer a change of scenery, some one-on-one attention and a chance for our dogs to enjoy life outside the shelter. Great for: afternoon trips, walks, hikes and dog-friendly outings.

PAWJAMA PARTIES
Have an open couch for a night or two? Pawjama Parties give dogs a chance to settle into a home, catch up on some good sleep and take a longer break from the shelter. Keep them overnight, for the weekend or even over a holiday. We’ll help match you with a dog who fits your home and plans. Great for: sleepovers, weekends, staycations and holidays.
