Seven Pups Survive after Being Abandoned in Snow Storm

We’ve named them after the seven dwarfs of Snow White fame, but the seven puppies currently being kept warm and safe at Metro East Humane Society are truly victims of human cruelty.

On Saturday evening, before the snow storm hit Edwardsville, someone thought it appropriate to dump eight six-week-old pups at the MEHS shelter in an outdoor dog run.  By the time staff found them Sunday morning, one had already frozen to death.

But, the littlest one, a female named Sneezy, and her six brothers have survived and are now being cared for by MEHS staff.  Little Sneezy had a rough first 24 hours with a very low body temperature, thus the name Sneezy.  But, a case of the sniffles is nothing compared to the miserable death her sister must have experienced.

MEHS Board members are offering a reward for a conviction and arrest of the human who thought this was an appropriate way to dispose of eight puppies. The Madison County Sheriff’s Department is investigating and, with any luck, will help us convict this person of the animal cruelty charges he deserves.

In the meantime, MEHS Board members and staff are appealing to the public to assist us in caring for these seven new mouths – on top of an already full shelter.  They were all obviously suffering from being extremely cold, were infested with intestinal parasites, and now will be housed at the shelter until at least January 7th when they will be ready to be spayed/neutered and placed in safe, loving homes.

We are asking you, our web friends, for your support in the care of our Seven Dwarfs.  If each person reading this sends just $10, it will make a big difference in the lives of these puppies and their shelter friends.  And, we encourage you to pass this on to others on your e-mail list who might support MEHS.  Just mail your checks to MEHS, 8495 State Route 143, Edwardsville, IL  62025 or use the PayPal secure link below to make a donation via credit card or checking account.

Together, we will show these young puppies that not all humans are cruel but, in fact, that there is enough ‘people love’ to go around to all of them.  Thank you and have the best of holiday seasons.
